Volunteers

We have many volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, all we need you to do is read over our Volunteer Guidelines, fill out our Volunteer Application and fill out a Volunteer Waiver. We do not have a kennel or sanctuary. We are foster home run, so unfortunately we cannot use volunteers under the age of 18. Here are the volunteer positions we are currently looking for:

  • Phones (Basic)- Retrieving messages and routing calls, some call back to route people to fill out applications online or to give information
  • Phones (Prescreenings)- Assisting Adoption Coordinator with Prescreening adopters and setting up home checks-training and guidance provided-some experience required
  • Phones (Surrenders)- Assisting Intake Coordinator with call backs to people wanting to turn in dogs-training and guidance provided-some experience required
  • Phones (Fundraising)- Assisting Fundraising Coordinator with calls soliciting donations of goods, services and money-training and guidance provided-some experience required
  • Call Backs - Calling previous adopters to get updates on address/phone numbers and to check on dog (s) to make sure all is well
  • Home Checks - Going out to potential adopters home to check to see if home is suitable for adoption - training and guidance provided- some experience required
  • Shelter Walkers/Dog Evaluators- Willing to go out and evaluate dogs for Intake Coordinator - training and guidance provided- some experience required- digital camera needed (LOCATION-DENVER, COLORADO SPRINGS, AURORA)
  • Transporters - willing to drive dogs within Phoenix and suburbs and to and from Tucson occasionally
  • Socialization and Obedience Training Volunteers - need people willing to pick up foster dogs on weekends or evenings and take dogs to dog parks and/or obedience classes for socialization and training purposes to assist foster homes with care (LOCATION-DENVER, COLORADO SPRINGS, AURORA)
  • Newsletter - need someone to create/maintain/send monthly newsletter, will need to coordinate with volunteers, foster homes and directors to find stories, pictures, etc. Needs to be sent via email and snail mail to reach everyone. Coordinate with Medical Recors coordinator to get updated database of adopters, donors and sponsors for list to send to. Mostly computer and email experience. Will use MS Word, Publisher, Adobe CS, Dream Weaver, etc to create.
  • **HIGH NEED POSITIONS:**

  • Adoption Coordinator - Call potential adopters, do prescreening, check phone log for adoption calls, coordinate with other volunteers to set up home check and dog viewing, get adoption contract and adoption fee, notify medical records coordinator of adoption, provide training materials or advise by coordinating with PJ for any potential questions or issues and follow up with phone calls and/or emails with adopter after adoption. All can be done from home via email and phone in 1-2 hours a day. Ideally if we had two adoption coordinators, they could split the duties and only work 1-2 hours a day for 3-4 days a week. We get about 10-12 applications per month, so this is a very manageable and rewarding position.
  • Volunteer Coordinator - Call potential volunteers and answer any questions, respond to applications, coordinate all volunteer schedules, assign tasks to volunteers, monitor phone log for phone calls to assign to specific volunteers, trouble shoot any potential problems, etc. Mostly phone and email work that can be done from home in 5-10 hours a week.
  • Foster Coordinator - Call potential foster homes and answer any questions, respond to applications, coordinate with volunteer coordinator, monitor phone log for phone calls, coordinate vet care for foster dogs, work with Kerry and/or PJ and Intake coordinator to match incoming dogs with foster homes, Provide training material and advise to foster homes (will work with PJ on this), help coordinate showing of foster dogs to potential adopters, act as first point of contact for foster homes to call if they have questions or issues, follow up with foster homes via phone and email at least once a week, get bios and photos from foster homes for website, etc. Mostly phone and email work that can be done from home in 5-10 hours a week.
  • Intake Coordinator - Call owners and shelters who are inquiring about turning in a dog, coordinate with foster coordinator to find foster homes or placement, monitor phone log for phone calls regarding intake, work with PJ and other Intake coordinator to bring dogs into program, explain options to people turning in their dogs, get owner surrender form, fee, dog possessions (i.e. food, dog bed, crate, toys, leash, collar, bowls, etc.) and all veterinary history from owner surrenders, coordinate with volunteers who do dog evaluation to go out and meet the dog for temperament testing before dog accepted into program, provide training material and advise to owner surrenders to persuade them to keep dog (will work with PJ on this), get bios and photos for website, etc. Mostly phone and email work that can be done from home in 10-15 hours a week. Can split this between two people to make more manageable.
